From Brussels To Berlin #4: The CDU/CSU & Greens Chancellor Candidates
Germany’s Superwahljahr (super election year) began to heat up this week, with both the Greens and CDU/CSU alliance announcing their candidates for Chancellor ahead of September’s federal elections.
The Greens selected co-leader Annalena Baerbock, while Armin Laschet will have the unenviable task of trying to emulate the success that Angela Merkel delivered for the conservative alliance for the last 15 years.
With the Greens polling ahead of CDU/CSU currently, there is belief in some quarters that Germany might be on the way to having its first Green Chancellor. Can Annalena Baerbock make history and deliver a Green-led government?
